Orchestra da Camera di Bruxelles
- Orchestra
In 1999, a group of young virtuosi from different cultures gathered in Brussels around a musical score out of shared passion for chamber music. The specific sonority of the Brussels Chamber Orchestra, their genuine interest to deeply research and experiment as a group is the result of this initial union. Indeed, this ensemble merges an especially rich mixture of nationalities, cultures and musical heritages, forging a dynamic interaction between contrasting musical belief systems, styles, and traditions. The absence of a conductor drives the musicians towards total personal involvement and converts orchestral texture into real chamber music. The repertoire includes works spanning from Bach to Mozart to Britten, from Elgar to Bartók Hindemith and Schoenberg. They have commissioned and premiered many new works from young outstanding composers and are constantly looking for new repertoire to be discovered. BCO performed with some fo the most outstanding musicians of our time such as Ivry Gitlis, Igor Oistrakh, Maxim Vengerov, Gavriel Lipkind, Janine Jansen, Sergei Krylov, Pierre Amoyal, Lorenzo Gatto, Dora Schwarzberg, Erasmo Capilla, Boris Berezovsky, Gilles Apap, David Cohen, Michael Guttman, Eliane Rodrigues, Plamena Mangova, Tatiana Vassilieva, Justus Grimm, Richard Stolzman, Walter Boeykens and the singer Daniele De Niese. BCO also excelled in other musical styles such as Flamenco with Amparo Cortes, Jazz with Michel Bisceglia as well as the ‘Pierre Anckaert Quintet’, Pablo Villuendas’ music, Jewish folklore with Kletzstory, Chinese folklore with George Gao (Erhu) and the French Chanson with Mauranne. These experiences enrich BCO’s ability to meaningfully participate in multicultural projects, adding programs of local music to otherwise classical tours in countries such as Italy, Spain, France, Germany, Norway, Mexico, Taiwan, Japan, USA and recently China. The Brussels Chamber Orchestra is involved in the creation and nourishment of educational and outreach projects and has been graciously honoured as artistical ambassodor of the « Yehudi Menuhin Fondation ».
