Philippe Thuriot
- Bandoneon
After graduating from the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen under the guidance of Mogens Ellegaard, Philippe Thuriot's career quickly took off. He toured with Les Ballets C de la B, Alain Platel's internationally renowned dance company, performing La Tristeza Complice (1996) and Pitié (2008) across Europe, the United States, Brazil, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Thuriot has been invited to perform with ensembles and orchestras such as Oxalys, Het Collectief (with Reinbert de Leeuw), Il Gardellino, Ictus, La Monnaie/De Munt (under Patrick Davin), Klangforum Wien, the Brussels Jazz Orchestra, and the WDR Jazz Orchestra. Several composers have written accordion concertos especially for him, including Dick van der Harst, Peter Vermeersch, and Dirk D'Ase, whose concerto premiered at the Wiener Konzerthaus.
In 2015, he recorded J.S. Bach's Goldberg Variations for the Warner Classics/Klara label. In 2018, he released a second solo album featuring his own arrangements of works by Couperin and Ravel. Both recordings were highly acclaimed by the international music press and received excellent reviews.
He has appeared at numerous international festivals, including Crete Senesi in Tuscany, held in celebration of Philippe Herreweghe's 70th birthday. He has also collaborated with leading jazz musicians such as Ellery Eskelin, René Lussier, Uri Caine, Mark Feldman, and Maria Schneider, all distinguished figures on the international jazz scene.
Currently, he is working on several new projects, including I Silenti, featuring music by Monteverdi arranged by Fabrizio Cassol and Tcha Limberger. In addition, he is developing two solo performances: Bach in Time, based on improvisations on the music of J.S. Bach, and Made in France, a journey from French Baroque music to French musette.
As his career clearly demonstrates, Philippe Thuriot is a remarkably versatile musician whose interests span jazz and improvisation as well as classical music.
